Seasonal and Winterization Services

Freeze protection storage preparation spring commissioning and preseason service for boats RVs and recreational equipment

Alaska seasons are hard on vehicles and equipment. Freezing temperatures, long storage periods, moisture, old fuel and weak batteries can turn a working boat, camper or recreational machine into a costly spring repair. Gearheads Garage provides seasonal preparation and winterization services in Wasilla for selected boats, RVs, travel trailers, powersports equipment and trailers.

Boat Winterization

Proper boat winterization depends on the cooling and propulsion system. Raw-water-cooled, closed-cooled and mixed systems do not all require the same steps. After identifying the setup, service may include draining or protecting raw-water components, checking coolant freeze protection where applicable, stabilizing fuel, servicing engine oil, protecting cylinders when appropriate, inspecting belts and hoses, caring for the battery and checking for water that could freeze in pumps, lines or low points. Jet boats, sterndrives and outboards may each need application-specific procedures.

RV and Camper Winterization

RV plumbing can hold water in pumps, lines, water heaters, traps, valves and fixtures. We provide winterization for compatible travel trailers, fifth wheels, toy haulers, campers and RV systems. The process may include draining, bypassing components, introducing RV-safe antifreeze where required and checking accessible plumbing for existing concerns. We can also inspect batteries, trailer running gear and exterior items so the unit goes into storage with a useful list of needed maintenance.

Powersports Storage Preparation

ATVs, side-by-sides, motorcycles, dirt bikes and snowmachines may sit for months between seasons. Storage service can include fuel stabilization, battery care, oil and filter service, cooling-system checks, belt and clutch inspection, lubrication and a general condition inspection. The correct approach depends on the machine, fuel system and storage environment. Addressing old fuel, weak batteries and known problems before storage reduces unpleasant surprises when the next season begins.

Spring Commissioning and Preseason Inspections

De-winterization is more than reconnecting a battery. We can prepare compatible equipment for use, check fluid levels, inspect for leaks or damage, verify batteries and charging systems, and run or test systems where practical. A preseason inspection is also a good time to find aging belts, cracked hoses, corroded wiring, dry wheel bearings, worn brakes or other issues while there is still time to order parts.

Trailers and Towable Equipment

Boat trailers, utility trailers and RV running gear should not be overlooked during seasonal preparation. We can inspect tires, bearings, hubs, brakes, breakaway systems, suspension, lights, connectors, couplers and jacks. Road salt, water, gravel and storage can all affect these components even when the trailer has accumulated relatively few miles.

Schedule Before the Weather Changes

Seasonal demand builds quickly in Alaska. Planning winterization before sustained freezing weather provides time to handle repairs instead of rushing after temperatures drop. Likewise, preseason service is easiest to complete before the first warm weekend or major snowfall creates a surge in demand.
