Pre Purchase and General Inspections

Independent condition checks for used vehicles boats powersports equipment RVs and trailers

A used vehicle or piece of equipment can look excellent and still hide expensive problems. An inspection cannot predict every future failure, but it can reveal current concerns, signs of neglect and areas that deserve closer attention before money changes hands. Gearheads Garage offers pre-purchase and general inspections in Wasilla for many cars and trucks, boats, powersports machines, RVs and trailers.

Automotive Inspections

For cars, trucks and SUVs, an inspection can include a visual check of the engine compartment, fluids, leaks, steering, suspension, brakes, tires, driveline, exhaust and other accessible components. When appropriate, we can scan supported modules for fault codes and review available data. A road test may be performed when the vehicle is safe, legal and properly insured. The inspection is designed to identify visible or testable concerns, not to provide a guarantee of future condition.

Boat and Marine Inspections

A general boat inspection may cover accessible engine and drive components, fuel and cooling systems, wiring, batteries, controls, visible hull or transom concerns and maintenance condition. On jet boats, we can also look at accessible jet-drive components and controls. A shop inspection is not the same as a formal marine survey, and water testing may not be included, but it can still provide valuable mechanical information before purchase or before the boating season.

Powersports Inspections

For ATVs, side-by-sides, snowmachines, motorcycles and dirt bikes, we inspect accessible engine, drivetrain, steering, suspension, brake, wheel or track, electrical and cooling components. We look for abnormal noises, play, leaks, evidence of overheating, poor repairs and signs of hard use. Model-specific scan capability and compression or other testing can be discussed based on the machine and the concerns.

RV and Trailer Inspections

Towable units depend on tires, bearings, brakes, axles, suspension, couplers, jacks, wiring and breakaway systems. We can inspect these running-gear and towing components and evaluate selected 12-volt or plumbing concerns. RV construction and appliance systems are highly specialized, so the scope should be agreed upon in advance. A full residential-system or structural RV inspection may require a dedicated RV inspector.

A Clear Useful Report

The goal is to give the customer a practical picture of the item's condition. Findings can be organized into safety or immediate concerns, maintenance needs and items to monitor or improve. Whenever possible, we explain why an issue matters and what kind of repair may be involved. Repair estimates may require additional diagnosis, disassembly or parts research and are not automatically included with every inspection.

Know the Limits Before You Buy

An inspection is limited to the condition and access available at the time. Hidden damage, intermittent failures and internal wear may not be detectable without disassembly or extended operation. Sellers should authorize the inspection, and the equipment should arrive with adequate fuel, batteries and safe operating condition. Even with those limits, an independent inspection can help a buyer ask better questions and avoid an uninformed decision.
