RV Travel Trailer and Fifth Wheel Service

Mechanical, electrical, chassis and seasonal service for the RVs Alaskans use to travel and camp

An RV or camper combines a vehicle, trailer and living space into one package. That creates a long list of systems that need to work together, especially when Alaska roads, cold weather and seasonal storage are involved. Gearheads Garage provides selected repair, maintenance and diagnostic services for motorhomes, travel trailers, fifth wheels, toy haulers and campers in the Wasilla and Mat-Su Valley area.

Chassis Running Gear and Towing Systems

For towable RVs, we service many of the components that keep the trailer safe on the road. Work may include wheel bearings, hubs, electric brakes, brake wiring, breakaway systems, suspension components, shackles, equalizers, springs, axles, couplers, jacks and towing-related hardware. We can inspect uneven tire wear, brake concerns, looseness, noises and visible damage. On motorized RVs, the shop can evaluate selected chassis and mechanical concerns based on vehicle size, access and the specific platform.

12 Volt Electrical Diagnosis

Low-voltage electrical problems are common in RVs and can affect lighting, batteries, charging, slide controls, jacks, pumps and other equipment. We can diagnose many 12-volt faults, damaged wiring, poor grounds, failed connections, battery problems and trailer-to-tow-vehicle circuit issues. We approach electrical problems systematically by testing the circuit and verifying the failure rather than simply replacing components.

Plumbing and Seasonal Systems

Freeze damage can turn a small plumbing issue into an expensive repair. We provide selected plumbing repairs and seasonal preparation, including winterization and de-winterization of compatible systems. Services may include inspection of water lines, pumps, drains, fittings and other accessible components. The exact winterization process depends on the RV layout and installed equipment, so we review the unit before deciding what is required.

Exterior Components and Accessories

We can help with selected exterior hardware and accessory installations, such as steps, jacks, lighting, towing components, battery upgrades, cameras and other 12-volt accessories. We also inspect visible roof, seal and exterior concerns and can discuss whether the needed work fits our capabilities. Large structural, major body or specialized appliance repairs may require an RV-specific facility; if a project falls outside our normal scope, we will be upfront about it.

Inspections and Preventive Maintenance

A preseason or pre-trip inspection can catch dry bearings, worn brakes, damaged wiring, aging tires, loose suspension parts, leaks and battery issues before a long drive. We can tailor the inspection to the unit and how it is used. For older campers or recent purchases, a general condition inspection also provides a useful repair list that separates urgent safety items from maintenance and future improvements.

Straightforward Local Service

Gearheads Garage is a locally owned Wasilla repair shop. We understand that RV downtime can disrupt a short camping season or an entire trip. Our goal is to give you a clear explanation of what we found and a practical path forward. Because RVs vary greatly in size and design, scheduling begins with basic information about the unit and the requested repair.
